Marsha Harris

profile_oct_1Marsha Harris plays the Appalachian mountain dulcimer, bowed dulcimer, Galax dulcimer, Native American style flute and fiddle. She began playing old time music in 1993 and attends various fiddle festivals seeing friends, playing music and picking up tunes by ear. She teaches a variety of classes and students comment about her patience in teaching.

She is the coordinator for the Crooked Road Dulcimer Festival, crookedroaddulcimerfestival.org, in Ferrum, VA held over the Memorial Day weekend each year.  Various classes are offered in Appalachian mountain and Galax dulcimers. The classes focus on the music and culture of the music of the Virginia and surrounding areas. The Crooked Road Dulcimer Festival is unusual since the same classes are repeated the second day so generally the student doesn’t have to give up one class for another.

Marsha’s style of playing the dulcimer and Native American style flute has been described as relaxing, thought provoking and emotional. While playing the old time fiddle tunes and even contemporary music on the dulcimer she has received comments like, I didn’t know you could play that song on the dulcimer. She has made many friends along her musical journey and looks forward to her next adventure in music.
